Huron Township, Michigan
Huron Township is located on the southwest corner of Wayne County. This community is named after the scenic Huron River, which flows diagonally through the Township, and for the Native American Indian tribe that once inhabited this area. Today, the township is still used primarily for agricultural use. Sod production, nursery, and greenhouse stock are main outputs in this community.
Both Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan are two of the country’s finest schools are they are both located less than a half hour drive from Huron Township. Both schools afford an excellent reputation in a wide variety of degree and doctorate programs. In addition, Wayne County area affords residents the choice of seven other universities, seven colleges and ten community colleges.
With close proximity to Detroit, the employment arena is even larger. Known for the automotive industry, Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler are headquartered all in the metro area. High profile entertainment venues such as Joe Louis Arena, Cobo Hall and The Palace, are all less than an hour’s drive from Huron Township. There are 18 professional theatres in Wayne County including the beautifully restored Fox Theatre situated in downtown Detroit. Professional sports fans thrive on the energy and excitement brought to the city with Red Wings hockey, Tigers baseball, Lions football, and Pistons basketball.
